Let's save the water together - 10 Ways to reduce water usage in daily life

Did you know that our city is already facing water shortages? Each year, there's less fresh water available to push seawater back into the ocean, causing our tap water to become saltier than what's considered safe. If we want to keep enjoying clean, high-quality tap water, it's time we start saving water—starting with small changes in our daily routines:

• Showering: Bathtubs can use 110–200 liters per bath. Switching to a shower helps cut down on excessive water usage.
• Shaving: Instead of rinsing your razor directly under the tap, wipe it with tissue first, then rinse it in a cup of water.
• Brushing Teeth: Leaving the tap on while brushing can waste 20–30 liters each time. Use a cup to rinse instead, which only uses 0.5–1 liter.
• Flushing the Toilet: Each flush uses about 8–12 liters. A simple trick is placing a large water-filled bottle inside the toilet tank (without obstructing internal mechanisms) to reduce water volume used per flush.
• Laundry: Whether by hand or machine, wait until you have a full load before washing to avoid wasting water.
• Washing Dishes: Use a basin instead of washing directly under a running tap, which can waste up to 9 liters per minute.
• Washing Produce: Rinse fruits and vegetables in a bowl of water instead of under running water.
• Mopping Floors: Use a bucket to rinse cleaning tools before and after use—this uses far less water than a hose.
• Watering Plants: Opt for a watering can instead of a hose. For larger gardens, consider using a sprinkler system.
• Washing Your Car: Use a bucket to dip your cleaning tools instead of a hose, which can waste 150–200 liters per wash.

Saving water isn’t difficult. By making just a few mindful changes in how we use water every day, we can all help make a big impact.
